CyberProf(TM)- A new paradigm in online tutoring system.

The kernel of most tutoring systems and automatic reasoning systems is written in C and an interpreted computer language such as Perl or Mathematica is used to communicate and to store the field specific content. In contrast, CyberProf parses basic English text. This makes it possible for CyberProf to parse and understand electronic text books, HTML, and most imporantly, the tutoring system can communicate with the student in English.

Earlier versions of CyberProf and derivatives such as Tycho are used at the UIUC by thousands of undergraduates to process online homework assignments in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

The most recent production version of CyberProf is used in a UIUC Physics long distance course, a freshmen discovery course (UIUC Phycs199BCS) and two Physics graduate courses (UIUC Phycs420, UIUC Phycs421).

CyberProf(TM) is now a commercial product. The original version was developed at the CCSR.

Outreach

For one year (2001-2002), Alfred Hubler, participated daily in the SisterTech after-school program of the Urban League of Champaign County, teaching HTML, and prototyping CyberProf as a tool for after school programs.

For five years (1996-2002), Alfred Hubler, taught twice a week for Urban League's CyberClub program, at the READY program, a regional public middle and high school for students at risk, at the CARE program, a county level public middle and high school for students at risk, and at public middle schools (Urbana Middle School, Franklin Middle School).

For eight years (1994-now) Alfred Hubler has been volunteering four hours per week to teach Mathematics at the Homehi middle school for girls. This private middle school aims to raise young girls' interest in the sciences, especially Mathematics and Physics.
